White Christmas the musical comes to Liverpool Empire

Hit musical comes to city

Dig out your winter woollies and have your sledges at the ready as White Christmas - the multi-million pound musical theatregoers have been dreaming of - opens at Liverpool Empire on 22 December – just 4 weeks away! Running until 7 January, White Christmas The Musical brings with it festive gifts aplenty – a cast including Aled Jones, Adam Cooper and Ken Farrington, lavish sets and costumes, perhaps the most Christmassy score around and, of course, snow!

Based on the classic 1954 movie, White Christmas is coming to the Liverpool Empire for just 20 performances this December, after a smash hit run at the Sunderland Empire last year.

Singer, actor, radio and TV Presenter Aled Jones will return to the role of Bob Wallace, a character he first played to great acclaim at The Lowry, Salford Quays.

The international dance star of stage and screen Adam Cooper (Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, Billy Elliott The Movie as well as On Your Toes and Guys and Dolls in London’s West End and principal dancer at the Royal Ballet) joins Aled in returning to the role of Phil Davis, the other half of the song and dance duo. Joining them will be TMA award winner Louise Plowright in the role of Martha Watson and Ken Farrington (Emmerdale, Family Affairs, Coronation St) as General Waverly.

Arriving at the Liverpool Empire after a smash hit sell out run last year in Sunderland, Irving Berlin’sWhite Christmas The Musical was first brought to the UK stage in 2006 by the Producers of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, appearing at the Plymouth Theatre Royal and The Mayflower Theatre Southampton. In 2007 it broke box office records at the Edinburgh Playhouse and Wales Millennium Centre. It played to sold out houses at the Marquis Theatre on Broadway (outselling Wicked) for the holiday season 2008/09.

With an ensemble of over thirty and a dynamic 17 piece orchestra, this dazzling musical is full of tap dancing, laughter and some of the greatest songs ever written, Irving Berlin’sWhite Christmas The Musical promises to be a merry and bright theatrical experience for the whole family.

Brimming with classic Irving Berlin hits like Blue Skies, How Deep is the Ocean, Happy Holiday, Sisters and of course the unforgettable title song White Christmas, it tells the story of two buddies putting on a show in a magical Vermont inn, and finding their perfect mates in the process.
