New E4 show Desperate Scousewives debuted last night with more than half a million viewers.

The reality TV show, which follows the lives of some of Liverpool’s most glamorous people, hit 500,000 viewers and looks set to rival fellow shows The Only Way Is Essex and Made In Chelsea.
 

The first of the eight-part series performed well for E4, 24% up on the channel's slot average for the past three months.

The Scouse stars are sure to be aiming for the 1 million plus viewers gained by TOWIE.

Reaction has been mixed for the show.

The Guardian described it as: “predictable, vacuous and with a tongue in as many cheeks as possible, Desperate Scousewives is a show that leaves you feeling just that bit grubbier for having guiltily enjoyed it".

The Liverpool ECHO said: “Thinking too much about Desperate Scousewives is probably bad for your mental health. Accept it for what it is –  fluffy and, at times, funny  nonsense. Was all the comedy intentional? Who knows? Who  cares?”
